Patriotism

PATRIOTISM
Max Mccuen

Patriotism is a love and devotion to one’s country. A patriot is someone who loves, supports, and is prepared to support one’s country.
In the United States Patriot Day occurs on September 11th of each year, in memory of the 2977 lives that were lost in the September 11, 2001 attacks.  At that time George Bush was President of the United States.  President Bush declared that September 11th be observed as Patriots Day.  People should put their flags out on Patriots Day and should also fly them at half-staff. People should also observe a moment of silence to honor all of those who lost their lives during the attack.
Patriotism is important today because it means staying true to your country no matter what.  Patriotism is still important because it is memorable for all the people that died on September 11th.  There were terrorists that hijacked our airplanes. They crashed two airplanes into the World Trade Center’s (Twin Towers) in New York City. They crashed one plane into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.  And another plane crashed in the fields in Pennsylvania. It was believed this plane was supposed to crash into the White House but the passenger’s possibly stopped that plane. And it ended up they lost their lives because of that.
Some of the people in the World Trade Center were saved by other people. My friend’s Uncle is a fireman and he went to the World Trade Center to help save people.  Even some people who weren’t in the World Trade Center who went there to help people died when the tower’s fell down.  My friend’s Uncle survived.
I am sad that most of the people died that day.  My sister’s gym teacher’s brother was also a fireman who went to help save people that day.  He was killed.  I think that we should celebrate Patriot’s Day because it’s staying true to our country. I think the terrorists are mean because if they weren’t mean they would not crash planes into buildings and kill innocent people.
I would  like to be an army man one day, to protect and serve my country. I wouldn’t just want to be sitting around all day hearing about buildings getting destroyed, and planes blowing up. But most of all I wouldn’t want to be sitting around hearing that innocent people are being killed.  I would do whatever I could to protect our country.
